1. folder blacklist automation

   Wouldn't it be great to have a folder like the bayesian public folder for each user (either personally or global) which acts like this:
   1. move an e-mail to the folder
   2. block the sender's domain instead of the user's e-mail address only

   For this we should also have a list of blocked domains or user addresses to manage.

2. Alias statistics i MDaemon.

   Statistics and "Last Usage" on main account name is already included but it is very difficult to track how frequent a user Alias is actually used and/or receiving any mails.

   People tend to want alias created but very seldom used and it would be good for me as a sysadmin to track the usage and possible remove unused aliases.

   Or even better, find alias that receives large amount of spam.

   Today all alias traffic is merged into the main account statistics and it is difficult to see if certain addresses catches more spam than others.

   • In the "Inbound Email" add an "Top Recipients inc. Alias". Which contains not just main account but also Aliases.
   • Include option to extract info on Alias in CLI based statistics.

3. Add an exception by email to customize the size of the incoming email

   The global option for the incoming email "reject message greater then many KB" should have an option to add some exceptions.
   For example the users that belong to the special group "Admin" shouldn't have limit for the size of incoming email.

4. Auto Respons function, Separate response messages depending on whether it is a local or external account

   In Exchange, you can choose two different auto reply messages depending on whether the sender is a local account on the mail server (colleagues) or if the sender is external.

   Very useful when you are on vacation you might want to inform your colleagues about how to manage internal affairs during the absence, you can inform about the times they can call even though you have holiday etc.

   External response will not contain that information.

   You may also be able to develop this great feature even better than Exchange, so you can choose which domains alternatively specific people who will get which autoresponder. Maybe 3 or 4 different auto answer?

   Please add this ASAP.

5. Export an MDaemon Group to a Contacts Folder

   It would really be beneficial to us in a school environment to be able to create a contacts list based on Group Membership.

   Below is an email thread with our UK support.

   Is it possible to create another public address book called "Students" that will automatically be populated with the members of the "Students" Group and then I could make this readable ONLY by the Teachers group, as I don't want the students accessing the email addresses of all the other students.

   I can see the benefit of being able to export an MDaemon Group to a Contacts Folder (especially in your scenario where the Staff and Students need to be segregated in this way).

   At the moment there is no method to do this though – you can define groups in Mailing Lists and as “users” with specific permissions on Public Folders but not your specific requirement.

   It would really be beneficial to us in a school environment to be able to create a contacts list based on Group Membership.

7. Contain Out of Office messages to internal addresses only

   An option to contain Out of Office messages to internal email addresses that can be controlled at the server level would be beneficial for us. We would like to be able to select certain email accounts to not send OOO messages to outside email accounts but still be allowed to email externally. Having this option available by the client would be beneficial as well.

   Thank you for sharing your idea with us. It will be considered for future versions.

   In the mean time, depending on your configurations there may be a way to do it using the AutoResponder Whitelist. For example, you could exclude messages with a X-MDSPF-Result header. If your mail server is only inserting this header into messages from non local users it would exclude those addresses from receiving the auto response message.

   Another option would be to use the content filter rule to send messages back to people instead of using the autoresponders. The content filter can check the from address and only send the message if its a local user.

10. Test Email Delivery

    The ability to "Send a Test Email" to a group list to show which recipients will receive it if external, and if internal which folder the email message will reside in once delivered.

    The email would not actually get delivered as the purpose is to she who will get it and where would it be stored.

    This would be ideal for customers who have mailing groups within mail groups with mailing groups.

11. Mail Opt Out

    We deal with a lot of automated email messaging systems. These systems are all usually capable of sending email, but not easily managing opt out requests. It seems to me that it would be a good feature to have, if you had a a mail account that is being used to send email keep track of who the emails are being sent to, and then if someone replies back with a Opt Out request that it track it inside a Opt Out Contacts list. The idea is to simply stop that email account from sending future emails to someone who has opted out and instead place it in the trash. This would allow automated systems that send email, to send through mdaemon, and mdaemon would not send emails when there was a contact in Opt Out. This is not the same as a mailing list, because it would allow individual emails and messages to be sent to anyone, but still give them the ability to Opt Out whenever necessary and no person would have to manually update or remove their address for the messaging / alert systems.

    Hello,

    Thanks for sharing your ideas with us. This could be done with a plugin, however, it would require that you write a custom plugin for your environment. You may also be able to accomplish this using the content filter. You would need one rule to monitor inbound email for unsubscribe requests and when found adds the senders email address to a text file and a second rule that checks the X-MDaemon-Deliver-To header of outbound emails for words from the same text file.

    A system that doesn’t require the manual creation of content filter rules will be considered for future versions.

16. IP Shield screen to allow comments like the Trusted IP Screen

    Would it be possible to add the ability to have comments for the entries on the IP Shield screen? Similar to the way you can do this on the Trusted IP Screen. It would be a handy little reminder so people could see at a glance who and why the IP addresses is in the IP Shield.

17. Split the SMTP (in) log in several files

    The "SMTP (in) log" (and screen) is a very useful tool for debugging and/or checking when someone complaints an email is "missing".

    However, due to the amount of useless traffic spammers and crackers generate it can be full of useless information.

    I think that an option should be given to split the SMTP (in) in the following categories:

    a) SMTP (in accepted): Only logs sessions where an email has been delivered

    b) SMTP (in rejected): Only logs sessions where an email has been rejected after the DATA command (for example with a 550 this looks as SPAM)

    c) SMTP (in failures): Only logs sessions that have failed after the DATA command but before the server could have sent the the response to the DATA command.

    d) SMTP (in auth): Only logs sessions that failed before the DATA command due to an authentication issue.

    e) SMTP (in probes): Sessions that do not fail but QUIT before issuing a DATA command.

    f) SMTP (in blocked): Sessions that are rejected for some other reason (i.e. Screen host)

    g) SMTP (in other): Am I forgetting something?

    If this is implemented I think that it should be optional OR if it is not optional an extra option should be given to keep a full SMTP (in) log as it currently is (I wouldn't choose to keep the full SMTP (in) but I can understand why some people would prefer it).

19. Add an option to SPF Verification to require an SPF record

    This option would require senders to have a valid SPF record, so that an SPF result of "NONE" would be equal to an SPF result of "Failure".

    Of course, there would have to be a corresponding option to bypass that requirement for authenticated sessions and a whitelist to add in hosts or domain names that for whatever reason can't create or don't yet have an SPF record for that domain.

    Hi Dave,

    Thank you for sharing your idea to add an option that would require a sender to have an SPF record configured. You can achieve similar functionality in the current version of MDaemon by enabling the option to Insert ‘Received-SPF’ headers into messages and then use the content filter to check for the existence of these headers. If the header doesn’t exist or has a value of none, you can take action on the message.
