Bulk email move by date
Users are lazy and want everything simple. We have a lot of users with 30, 40, 50,000+ emails in their Inbox. They complain that the system is slow (the server is very fast). I've explained to them how to manually move them to different folders, but its very time consuming and they say they don't have time to do it.
Could we get a feature that would allow emails to move their email from "folder x" to "folder y (create the folder if it doesn't exist)" from "start date" to "end date".
Thanks,
Paul
Hello Paul,
Thank you for sharing your suggestion with us. The AccountPrune utility in MDaemon already allows you to move messages older than X days to another folder. You can find documentation on using the command line utility in the MDaemon\App\AccountPrune.txt file. If you prefer its is also possible to move the messages from one folder to another using PowerShell, or any other scripting language.
Thanks,
Arron

Hi Paul,
What email client are the users currently using?

Arron,
Thank you for your prompt reply, and yes I'm aware of AccountPrune (midnight.bat - we use it to purge the deleted and sent folders). But here's the problems using it to archive user email:
1. It's not activated by the user
2. It would process daily unless manually removed, trickle moving emails every day after the initial move.
3. It's not dynamic enough - it would continually move mail into the same folder unless it was manually changed by us - not the end user. The new folder would eventually cause the same issue over time when it get 30,40,50,000+ emails in it unless monitored and changed. Opening the folder would be extremely slow (as it is now for some users).
4. We all know users don't want to manage their mail, they just expect it to work - and work fast.We provide mail services to a number of companies and using AccountPrune as it exists today would be an operational maintenance nightmare. What I'm suggesting is something the user of the mailbox can control and run as needed - like the way the semaphore works (one and done). The AccountPrune processing would/could cause users to think mail was deleted when in actuality it was moved into a different folder. This would cause a major headache for everyone. If AccountPrune can be enhanced to take into consideration then number of emails in the Inbox (or specified folder) based on a parameter and send the user an email stating emails were moved to *** folder (*** - a specified folder by the user) prior to mm/dd/yy, this could work (in most cases the user would end up getting an email every day - spam!!!). Ideally, if something can be initiated by the end user would be best.
Thanks in advance for your consideration,
Paul
